Sri Lanka may not be world-renowned for its golf but there are four excellent courses two of which are located in Colombo, another in Kandy and fourth in Nuwara Eliya. For golf enthusiasts this is a wonderful way to see three different parts of Sri Lanka. The country’s golf courses are out of the ordinary too. The Royal Colombo Golf Club in Colombo has a railway track running through it, the picturesque and quaint Nuwara Eliya Golf Club in Nuwara Eliya town is at a height of 2,000 meters and the recently opened Victoria Golf & Country Resort, near Kandy is truly spectacular.
The Royal Colombo Golf Club
This course is 5,770 m long. The Royal Colombo Golf Club is easily accessible, being 20 minutes drive from all first-class hotels in the city. It is a 96 acre former model farm with a scenic landscape, the Glimpse of rare flora and fauna completing the picture. The Royal Colombo Golf Club is the oldest course in Sri Lanka and the second oldest Golf Club in Asia with a 6560 yard par 71 course.
Victoria Golf Club, Digana
This course is 6,190 m long, a championship golf course designed by Donald Steel and inaugurated early in 1999. The Victoria Golf Club is situated 25 km east of Kandy and 150 km from Colombo. Impressive natural outcrops of rocks are a distinctive feature and indeed a hazard of the course. The year around temperate tropical climates enables one to make the maximum out of a stay in this property. The property is accompanied with a swimming pool and luxury accommodation.

The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club
This course which is reputed to be one of Asia’s finest is 5,520 m. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) above sea level which enables the plantations to produce the finest tea in the world. Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889 is one of the oldest Golf Clubs in Asia and probably in the world. The property being old and quite traditional and strict in its dress code, one can travel back in time in this supreme Golf course.
The city is home to at Nuwara Eliya Golf Club – walking distance from the town center. At 6200 meters above sea level and nestled amidst the tea plantations of the central highlands, Nuwara Eliya is a charming hill station developed by British planters in the late 1800s.
